After several amazing, successful years hosting this event in New Orleans, we are incredibly excited to bring our annual tennis-a-thon to the Bay Area!

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, we are uniting high schools from across the Bay Area for an unforgettable day of games, hitting, and fun on the courts—all for a great cause. This year, we are thrilled to partner with the Dominican University of California Women’s Tennis team, who will be joining us on the courts to help run the event and play with participants. Expect fun tennis, music, and food for all levels!

Why We Are Raising Funds

Continuing the inspiring mission started by Loyola University of New Orleans graduate Isabella Leano, Smash Cancer has raised over $34,000 in seven years, directly contributing to groundbreaking cancer research, treatment advancements, and patient support through Stand Up To Cancer. Cancer affects every family, and each donation accelerates critical discoveries that save lives today.

This year, our goal is to raise $15,000, and the proceeds will be split to support two amazing groups:

• Stand Up To Cancer: Half of all funds will go directly toward funding groundbreaking cancer research, treatment advancements, and patient support. Your contribution supports innovative collaborations among top scientists, helping to create life-saving breakthroughs.

• Dominican University of California Women’s Tennis: The other half will go to support the Dominican University of California Women’s Tennis program, helping these incredible local student-athletes with equipment and travel costs.

(Note: Funds are collected here and will be manually distributed to both organizations immediately following the event).

Smash Cancer-NOLA will take place on April 19th, 2026 from 8am-5pm at The Pontchartrain Racquet Club in New Orleans. We are proud to say this is our 8th year putting on this event and have raised over $33,000 over the past seven years.

Friends. This Giving Season I am Standing Up to Cancer.

I am doing this in honor of my mother in law Janet who has been battling stage 4 cancer this entire year. She is a rock and an inspiration to our family. Thanks to great care and her resilience, she is currently in remission.

I am launching this campaign to help the incredible team at Stand up to Cancer fulfill their mission to raise awareness and fund research to detect and treat cancers with the aspiration to cure all patients.

SU2C’s Early Detection and Cancer Interception initiatives focus on proactive approaches that identify cancer risks and intervene early.

These initiatives include:

Advanced Screening Techniques: Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as liquid biopsies, imaging, and molecular analysis to detect cancer markers before clinical symptoms arise.

Prevention and Early Intervention: Research into how cancer begins and evolves has paved the way for treatments that can be applied at the earliest stages of cancer formation, aiming to halt progression before the disease becomes aggressive.

These methods reflect a shift from the conventional reactive approach to one that emphasizes prevention and early management, offering patients more options and potentially more effective outcomes.

Hey Friends,

At the start of this year, I made a promise to myself: to take on something challenging—something that demanded discipline, sacrifice, and heart. I wanted my 7-year-old son, Jayce, to see what it looks like to show up, push through, and keep going—even when it’s hard.

So I signed up for the San Francisco Half Marathon—13.1 miles across hills, wind, and the iconic Golden Gate. And mile by mile, I’ve been training. Starting with short runs, building to longer ones. But every step has brought one thing into sharp focus: I’m not the only one running a hard race.

Some of the strongest people I know are battling something far tougher than miles on a road. They’re fighting cancer—with courage, grace, and grit. I’ve been wearing a pink bracelet for months now, in quiet solidarity and loud support.

Now, with race day just days away, I’m running with purpose. I run for my son, Jayce. For my wife. For our family. For my sister—a cancer survivor. For sweet boy Rocket, who recently passed. For the loved ones we've lost. And most of all, I run for my friends in the fight right now: Sunny (Bouakadakis) Blount, Kim (Bohnert) Cody, Kevin Bachar, Steph Saffer, and Mars Wasef.

I’ve chosen to raise funds for Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C)—an organization fueling groundbreaking, collaborative cancer research. If you feel moved to support, a donation of any amount would mean the world. And even just sharing this with someone else helps the cause.

Live Alive 2025 - help us Stand Up to Cancer
Five years ago (during COVID) I ran a solo marathon and raised over $10,000 for cancer research, thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and colleagues like you.

I thought my marathon days were over, until my 17-year-old daughter Sylvie told me that she wanted to run a marathon and asked me if I would run it with her. She also thought it would be important to continue to raise awareness for cancer prevention and cancer research - a cause that is important to us, and important to so many of you who have been personally affected by cancer.

So here we go!

We are training for the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday, October 5th!!

Our goals this time are simple:

1) finish the race (ideally without walking)

2) raise as much money as possible for cancer research

Our race motto is: "Live Alive 2025"

We run for the loved ones we have lost, for all survivors, and to help those who will face cancer in the future.
