Bechtel has proudly partnered with Fika (formally Bridges to Prosperity) since 2016, supporting trail bridge projects across Rwanda for nearly a decade. What began as a shared commitment to sustainable development has grown into a lasting collaboration focused on connecting rural communities to essential resources and opportunities.
Over the years, 85 Bechtel volunteers have contributed through fundraising and on-the-ground support, helping deliver 8 trail bridges that improved access to schools, healthcare, and markets, for over 30,000 local residents. These bridges do more than span rivers—they create pathways to opportunity, resilience, and long-term community impact.
Our 2026 project team is the most diverse to date, uniting colleagues from all five of Bechtel’s Global Business Units (GBUs), EPC functions, and corporate divisions for the first time. In May, the team will support construction of the Kirehe trail bridge, a 76 meter suspension bridge spanning the Nyamutanga river, creating lasting access and opportunity for more than 4,500 local residents.
Together, the team is driven by our core themes of safety, unity, and legacy. These values guide our work, strengthen our collaboration, and ensure a lasting impact.
Your donations will be used to cover the team's travel, accommodation, and other miscellaneous costs to complete the project successfully in the limited time frame. With your support, we can continue building bridges that truly change lives!

Inside the Bridge: A Closer Look at the Impact
As the Kirehe trail bridge comes to life, we’ll be sharing updates on our VivaEngage page that connect supporters directly to the journey! Through photos from the field, brief blog‑style reflections, and progress milestones, donors can follow along as the team plans, prepares, and builds the bridge. These updates are designed to give a behind‑the‑scenes look at what it takes to deliver a trail bridge—from early coordination to on‑site construction—so supporters can see how their contributions help create meaningful, long‑term impact for the local community.
