Meet Belzara, a gorgeous eight-year-old Samoyed from California who is facing a urgent medical care with Diabetes. Belzara needs insulin, syringes and glucose monitoring. Her treatment is estimated to cost $1,115. Paws 4 A Cure is providing a $300 grant, but her mom is trying to raise $815 for the remainder of the funds that Belzara needs to move forward with the treatment.
Belzara’s veterinarian believes she will do great with insulin and monitoring. Her loving mom has shared their heartfelt story, which you can read—along with more adorable photos—on Belzara’s fundraising page.
You can help make a life-changing difference for Belzara and her family by making a tax-deductible donation toward her veterinary care. Every dollar brings him closer to healing.
If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing her fundraising page helps spread the word and brings us closer to our goal.
Thank you for being a part of Belzara’s journey. Let’s give him the chance she deserves.
“Belzara is in critical need of a clinical procedure/test, and a 6-month supply of insulin with syringes so she can regain her health and energy for best quality of life.
I am deeply grateful to Paws 4 A Cure foundation for the generous $300 grant to go toward Belzara’s urgent veterinary care, and for her compassion for pets and the people who love them. I am comforted knowing that when donations for Belzara exceed her need that the remaining funds will stay with Paws 4 A Cure to help other pets facing medical challenges.
Belzara will soon be 9 years of age. She was diagnosed with diabetes in 2023 and remains insulin dependent. Through consistency with her twice daily insulin injections, exercise and nutrition her glucose level has been maintained in the healthy range since her diagnosis until late January when she began experiencing increased urination, abnormal thirst, and lethargy, classic signs of high glucose in the bloodstream. A sponsored veterinary visit in February confirmed elevated glucose and fructosamine levels, indicating that her current insulin dosage is no longer effectively regulating her blood sugar and must be clinically reassessed.
Without proper insulin regulation, diabetic dogs can develop a life-threatening complication called Diabetic Ketoacidosis. When the body cannot use glucose for energy it is forced to break down fat, this produces acidic ketones in the bloodstream and will quickly become a metabolic crisis.
To prevent this in Belzara, she urgently needs clinical intervention to perform a glucose curve test. The procedure for this test involves placing a small sensor at the back of her neck that measures glucose levels in the fluid beneath the skin every minute. The sensor records continuously while Belzara is at home, providing accurate day-in-the-life information throughout her day of eating, activity, rest, and sleep over a 12-hour period, and repeated a few weeks later. The data identifies the peak, lowest point, and duration of insulin effectiveness allowing her veterinarian to safely adjust her insulin and bring her glucose levels back to a healthy range.
I welcomed Belzara into my family in 2017 when she was just 8-weeks of age. The very moment I met her she captured my heart and remains there as a true blessing. I have always prioritized her health and happiness because giving a pet a good quality of life is the main reason why I adopt. Belzara is overflowing with character and communicates her very strong opinions through playful “arooohs” and little front paw stomps that always make me laugh. She has a gentle and loving nature with other animals and people, she brings smiles and instant joy to everyone she meets.
Until recently I have always been able to meet Belzara’s needs and my own without pause. However, due to an unexpected and prolonged odyssey of unemployment despite actively applying for positions I have had to exhaust all financial means of my own including savings and my IRA I prematurely cashed out just to cover living expenses over these last 18-months, and now I am facing eviction from our home of 7-years.
Even though this is an unchartered period of my life, in my heart I am faithful that God is guiding me forward. My greatest hope is to simply ensure Belzara receives the treatment that will keep her healthy and safe while I work toward regaining financial stability.
Belzara is my joyful companion whose playful and sassy spirit brightens my life and fills my heart with love.
I appreciate you for taking the time to read Belzara’s story, and for the support you may be able to give. Every act of kindness, whether through a donation or sharing Belzara’s story helps ensure that she receives the care she needs. It is a blessing to know that her story may also help bring hope to other families and healing to their beloved pets through Paws 4 A Cure.”
