Hi, my name is Melissa, and I’m reaching out with a mother’s hope and a heavy heart to ask for support for my son.
Before he was even born, something completely beyond anyone’s control happened. While he was developing in the womb, six of his adult tooth buds never formed—all in his upper jaw. This condition has nothing to do with anything he has done. It’s simply something he was born without.
Around the age of 10, my son became deeply self-conscious. He stopped smiling. He stopped speaking as much. Watching him lose his confidence at such a young age has been incredibly difficult as a parent.
Also, he has had sinus difficulties, and we have discovered from a CT scan that because those teeth never developed, the structure of his upper jaw has been affected, and his sinuses have dropped.
To begin correcting this, he has already undergone extensive treatment. He has worn braces for the past 4 years, showing incredible patience and strength throughout. Recently, he underwent a major oral surgery, where bone grafts were placed on both sides of his upper jaw to lift his sinuses and rebuild the bone needed for future dental implants.
This is only one step in a long and challenging journey. The next phase—dental implants—is essential, not just for his appearance, but for his ability to eat comfortably, speak clearly, and regain his confidence as he grows.
Unfortunately, these procedures are costly and not covered by insurance or OHIP. As a single mom, I am doing everything I can, but the financial burden is overwhelming.
I am asking for help to give my son the chance to smile again, to feel confident, and to live without the physical and emotional challenges this condition has caused.
Any support—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story—means more than words can express. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being part of his journey.
